Research Interests
Dry beans are a niche field crop in Ontario, typically offering high economic returns for a high level of management. My role is to shape the management techniques for this crop and increase grower profits.
Recent or Current Projects
- Pest management in dry beans, Pulse Science Cluster CAP funding
- Response of dry beans to sulphur fertilizer
- The impact of row width, planting date and plant populations to optimize dry bean yield
- Fungicide efficacy for white mold in dry beans and soybeans
- Managing SCN in dry beans
- Variety evaluation in dry beans and soybeans

Potential Graduate Students
I am looking for students/partners interested in applied pest management and agronomy research in field crops – particularly dry edible beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). Current research questions include the interaction of planting date, plant population and row width on the yield and profitability of various dry bean market classes and the management of key dry bean pests including white mold, anthracnose, SCN and western bean cutworm. Experience in pest management and Canadian production agriculture would be useful. For more information, please contact me using the contact information above.
